About Surviving 27
So basically, this is a project about making it past 27 and what comes after. Each vinyl has its own unique artwork - I used generative art to make them all different.
What's This All About?
The 27 Club is a cultural phenomenon referring to a number of popular musicians, artists, actors, and other celebrities who died at age 27. The term became widely known after Kurt Cobain's death in 1994, with the media noting his age was the same as several other famous musicians who had died young.
But what about the ones who make it? What happens when you get past that age and just... keep going? That's what got me thinking.
"Surviving 27" is my attempt to explore this through 16 tracks. It's about getting older, still creating, and hopefully still having something worth saying along the way.
The Collection
Just 100 copies available - same album on each one, but every cover is different thanks to the generative art. £19.95 each, and I'll cover the UK shipping.
Unique Artwork
Each cover is made with code, so no two are the same. I thought it'd be cool if the art was as unique as the journey it represents.
Original Music
16 tracks that hopefully capture something about getting older and still making music. Each one is a different part of the story - some good days, some not so good.
Premium Vinyl
Pressed on 180-gram vinyl because, well, if you're going to do it, might as well do it properly. Comes with all the liner notes and credits in a nice gatefold sleeve.
About the Music
These 16 tracks are basically my attempt to capture different moments - from starting out in underground scenes to figuring things out as you go. Some tracks worked out better than others, but that's part of it.
I tried mixing electronic stuff with real instruments to get a sound that feels familiar but also fresh. The tracks touch on things like:
- Overcoming creative blocks and self-doubt
- Finding meaning in artistic expression
- Building authentic connections with audiences
- Balancing commercial success with artistic integrity
- Growing older while staying creatively young
